How DiscMeet works

DiscMeet is a live, growing product — around 2,900 servers as of July 2026. Here is how it works, and where our July 2026 test (one standardized two-speaker call; single mic, so diarization was not testable) found the catches that matter when you compare it to Discap.

DiscMeet posts a structured note to a thread — Discussion, Decisions, Action Items, and Open Questions, varying per meeting rather than a fixed template. It onboards with a welcome embed and a ⚙️ Setup button that opens a native Discord modal, lands new installs on a setup-success page, and names each notes thread from the meeting content. A two-stage flow (join, then press Start) shows a ⚪ Ready then 🟢 Recording status, and Pro adds an MCP endpoint that pipes call history into ChatGPT, Claude, or Cursor.

The catch: recording is opt-in and off by default

This is the honest flank. DiscMeet does not announce recording. When it starts, the only signals are a voice-channel status label and a 🟢 on the controls message — no public "this call is being recorded" message and no pointer for a participant who wants out. Consent is a setting an admin has to switch on; until they do, everyone in the channel is transcribed silently.

That has real consequences. In our second run, DiscMeet kept recording after the scripted dialogue ended and transcribed roughly two minutes of unrelated room audio straight into a public notes thread. Nobody in that room agreed to it, and nobody was told. Discap takes the opposite default: recording is always announced when the bot joins, and any member can run /optout to keep their voice out — no admin toggle required. Recording is always announced. The owner-hallucination catch

DiscMeet's summary is confident even when it should not be. Because our test rig used one shared microphone, both speakers arrived as a single Discord user — and yet the recap assigned action items to named owners, getting most of them wrong, with no hedging like "speakers could not be distinguished." A reader would trust owners the model invented.

The lesson applies to any tool: attribution beyond Discord-user identity is inference, not fact. Discap captures one audio stream per Discord participant, so speaker labels track who actually held the mic rather than a guess. (On a single shared mic, like our rig, every bot sees one speaker — the real advantage shows up in normal multi-person calls.)

How we tested

We ran one standardized two-speaker "stand-up" dialogue, seeded with known facts (numbers, a decision, and deliberately tricky proper nouns), played through a single Mac microphone into a real Discord voice channel in July 2026. Because both voices shared one microphone, they reached every bot as a single Discord speaker, so diarization and per-speaker accuracy were not testable — the confident owner-guessing we saw is exactly what single-connection input produces.
